Head (Start) to the Capitol Advocacy Day

Izzi Family And Community Engagement Coordinator Moana Lupe shares her experience leading a mighty group of staff, parents, and students to our State Capitol in Sacramento for Head Start Advocacy Day on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Our Izzi Early Education group was also joined by community members from Peninsula Family Services and Wu Yee Children's Services.

This trip to the State Capital for "Head Start" Advocacy Day was definitely one for the books. Though it was only a few of us physically there, we carried the Izzi hearts of our colleagues, educators, community members, families, children, and generations now and ones to come. How could we not make this moment count!

I'm blessed to have been given the opportunity to knock on the doors of the legislature (Senator Becker and Assembly Member Papan) along with our parent leaders and community partners. We let our state representatives know we are here and need them to hear our hearts and the stories. To see the effects of the work that goes on daily. To be given a place in our county and change the lives of those we get to serve. We came away leaving with them a part of us on their minds and hope in our hearts for the changes that are needed to continue this amazing work we love so much.

My statement made: "We are here and a part of building strong children and families, so we can have stronger communities with people that are engaged and involved with their city and state. Izzi is part of the solution! Help us to continue this great work!
